Evil Eye/ Mal de ojo
Numerous readers have contacted me, asking for help with their egg cleanses. If you’re new to my blog, please read What is the Evil Eye. You’ll also learn some cultural info that can help you gain a better understanding of its origins.
Although this is a widely known topic (especially in folklore);customs & remedies are commonly passed down through word of mouth. There just really isn’t much information that you can ‘google’ regarding the evil eye.
How to protect yourself from the Evil eye:
Now that you know more about mal de ojo and what it is, here are a few tips on how to protect yourself from the bad juju.
Sage
Sage is my go-to for banishing negative vibes and energy. You can find (or make!) sage spray for on-the go protection. This option is also nifty if you can’t smudge/burn sage.
Banish oil
LOVE this oil so much. I rub it on my 3rd eye and on my evil eye bracelet for some added protection.
Lavender
Anytime you’re experiencing high levels of anxiety or just need a pick-me-up, lavender will do the trick. Add fresh or dried to your bath or try an essential oil roll-on.
Crystals
I dunno about y’all, but I am crystal obsessed. Here are my favorite bad juju repelling stones:
Black Tourmaline
A grounding stone, Black Tourmaline also protects you from EMF radiation. Keep one by your desk to keep the work vultures at bay.
Obsidian
Obsidian is technically volcanic glass.
The ultimate protector due to its ability to absorb and reflect bad vibes.
Black Obsidian
Resilience in a stone. What more can you ask for? Other metaphysical properties include: grounding, aura cleansing, & transformation.
Evil eye bracelets
Y’all. Another one of my evil eye bracelets broke!
After recently consulting with a few folks in the spiritual community who pointed me in the right direction, I learned:
- when a mal de ojo bracelet becomes damaged/broken: it has literally ‘taken a hit’ for you.
- You MUST throw away or bury it.
- Broken pieces are harboring evil energy. Children are especially susceptible to falling ill after touching.
I promptly buried the pieces in my garden and moved on!
Wear black
-We all know black absorbs negative energy. Annnd it slims you out and goes with everything. 😀
Black salt
Recently, I learned that there is a MAJOR difference between white salt and black salt
Bath
Baths are cleansing in nature. They can signify washing away what no longer serves us. New to spiritual baths? I totally recommend you try the following:
- Clean your tub before and after use!
- Add a handful of good quality epsom salts.
- Sprinkle dried roses (self-love) or lavender (stress reducing)
- Light some candles, burn incense, and soak for at least 30 mins.
Basic Egg Limpia interpretation
Disclaimer: I am a novice and am constantly growing and learning in my practice. Any interpretations should not be substituted for medical advice/ect.
I provide guidance on how to rid yourself of mal de ojo and bad juju, based on my personal experiences. Follow your intuition and learn to trust in self. You are powerful!
In the first photo you can clearly see a large bubble at the water’s surface. This indicates that there is a person who has their “eye” on Dora. You can also clearly see the shape of someone’s face.
The next 3 photos are excellent examples of needle-like extensions—>a sign of envy.
She replied a few days later and her subsequent cleanse shows a face as well- can you spot it?

I am also enjoying all of this information. I have taken an interest in learning about the history of the Evil Eye amulet. I am in New Orleans, by the way.
